Prague, Oct 29 (CTK) – The People in Need organisation wants to change the negative attitude to politics among young people and arouse their interest in local affairs and civic activism through its contest Hleda se LEADr that culminated in June and whose second year is starting this autumn.

The contest is organised within the educational programme One World at Schools, the programme’s head Karel Strachota told CTK.

“We meet many young people who have ideas and are capable of making them happen. But only a few of them can imagine that they would be politicians. We want to show them that they could do a lot if they were politicians,” he said.

The contest is open to people aged from 17 to 25.

The participants in the contest will undergo training in project management, good communication, team leadership, functioning of local authorities and activism on social networking sites. They will present their own projects to a jury. Those who advance to the next round will have several tasks. The best two contestants will meet in a discussion duel whose result will be decided by a public vote.

The winner of the first year of the contest was university student Aneta Sklenarova from Tachov, west Bohemia.

“The contest showed me an absolutely new way of how to spend my time, in other words, that step by step I can work on affairs that may be a big contribution to my surroundings and the town I live in,” Sklenarova said.
