One of the bigger Czech e-shops dedicated to sports equipment, Bikero, has recently announced that it will end its retail ventures in winter sport equipment, namely skis. Skiing is very popular in Czechia, as ski slopes are within the range of a 2 hour drive for a vast majority of the inhabitants of this country, and thus it did not seem as such a bad idea for Bikero to expand its product range in this direction. Nevertheless, it seems that selling skis has not worked out for the company, as it announced the end of its winter sport department in the past days. “We’re done with skiing, they just take up space in our warehouse and we don’t want to waste resources just to fill the winter season,” said Bikero founder, Jan Coufal, also admitting that rebuilding all their stores for a few months each year to sell their winter range was a significant burden. The store is now planning to mainly stick to its name and sell bicycles. Despite the fact that the bike market is only just starting to recover from a massive shortage of parts, clever business decisions of this company seem to have kept their warehouses stocked up, and thus the e-shop seems to have an upper hand in the Czech bicycle market for now. They are reportedly planning to use this advantage to ‘teach cyclists to ride in the winter’.
