Olomouc, North Moravia, June 21 (CTK) – The High Court in Olomouc rejected the appeal lodged by Vietnamese Hung Dang against a ten-year prison sentence for having traded in a 20-kilogramme marihuana consignment yesterday.
The drug was hidden in two suitcases customs officers uncovered at the Slovak border four years ago.
According to the indictment, there was an organised group operating in several countries. Another three suspects are being prosecuted in Slovakia.
At first, the Vietnamese man was threatened with ten to 18 years in prison.
The courts meted out the verdict at the lower limit of the punishment taking into account the length of the trial that could not be influenced by the defendant.
This was caused by changes in the composition of the court panel and the court’s effort to question witnesses from abroad.
The courts ruled that the group tried to drive the consignment across the border in November 2012. It was detained in the customs area on the Slovak side of the border.
The group members passed the quality cannabis in two suitcases based on a conspiracy agreement in Lipnik nad Becvou, north Moravia.
Then one of the accomplices drove the drug by a taxi to Slovakia. The rest watched his journey.
