Prague, April 4 (CTK) – Czech choreographer and dancer Marie Kinsky and culture journalist Jana Machalicka will be presented with the Order of Arts and Letters by Jean-Pierre Asvazadourian, the French ambassador to Prague, on Tuesday in appreciation of their promotion of French culture, the embassy has told CTK.

Kinsky is a choreographer, producer and dance teacher. She heads the Prague-based SESTA group promoting modern dance, which she founded after returning from her studies in France in 1999.

Since 2013, Marie Kinsky has worked as a dance adviser at the Czech Centres that promote Czech culture abroad.

She founded the Vision of Dance association that seeks an increase in the state support for modern dance and interdisciplinary arts.

She cooperates on cultural projects linked to the New Generation Museum that is being established in her family’s chateau in Zdar nad Sazavou, south Moravia.

Kinsky, born in France, came to the Czech Republic together with her husband in 1997, and she has been promoting the approximation of Czech and French cultures since.

Machalicka worked at the Academy of Sciences after her university studies, and later in the Theatre Institute. She started a journalist’s career in 1996 when she became a culture reporter of the Lidove noviny (LN) daily. For several years, she worked as an assistant programme planner of Prague’s Labyrint theatre and a member of the commission of the Prague Festival of German Language Theatre.

The Order of Arts and Letters is a French honorary order introduced in 1957. It has been bestowed by the culture minister on personalities from the areas of literature and art, who have significantly contributed to the influence of arts in France and the world, the embassy said.
