Prague, Feb 8 (CTK) – President Milos Zeman has invited King of Spain Felipe VI for an official visit to the Czech Republic in the congratulation on his recent 50th birthday, Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek told journalists on Thursday.

Zeman also stressed “friendly relations without any problems” between Spain and the Czech Republic, which follow up the tradition of long-term cooperation, especially in the sphere of culture and education.

“The Cervantes Institute, which you officially opened along with your wife Letizia in Prague over 12 years ago, has become an acknowledged educational and cultural institution,” Zeman said.

“It considerably contributes to the rapprochement of our nations, a growing awareness of the culture of Hispanophone countries and spread of the good name of the Kingdom of Spain,” Zeman said.

He invited Felipe VI and his wife for an official visit.

“It would be an honour and pleasure for me if I could welcome you at Prague Castle, the ancient seat of kings of Bohemia,” Zeman said.

Zeman briefly greeted Felipe VI in the United Nations in September 2016. He himself was never to Spain in his capacity of president.

Felipe VI was twice in the Czech Republic, as the successor to the throne. In September 2005, he opened a branch of the Cervantes Institute in Prague. In May 2001, he paid a four-day official visit to the Czech Republic.
