Prague, Dec 21 (CTK) – Czech popular pop singer Karel Gott, 76, will spend Christmas in hospital where he will undergo another dose of chemotherapy for a lymph node malignant tumorous disease known as Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Czech Radio- Radiozurnal said yesterday, referring to Gott´s spokeswoman Aneta Stolzova.
Gott underwent the first chemotherapy in November, a second at the end of November and in early December. The third will follow before the Christmas holiday.
“Mr Gott will be admitted to hospital for another planned treatment before Christmas and he will spend the holiday in hospital. He will greet his fans on Christmas Eve on Facebook,” Stolzova told the radio.
The disease was uncovered during urgent abdominal surgery in early November and doctors immediately started targeted oncological treatment in the General University Hospital.
In early December, Gott told the German daily Bild that he sometimes suffers from stomach and joints pain and that he has started to lose his hair.
He said the tumorous disease has not hit any organs and that doctors give him a 90 percent chance of surviving. But he said he cannot imagine singing again.
“But my doctors promised me that my voice as well as other life forces will be recovered. However, it will be a long way,” Gott told Bild.
Gott has kept at the top of domestic pop music for half a century and also has a number of fans abroad, mainly in Germany.
Former Czech president Vaclav Klaus decorated Gott with a state award for contribution to Czech culture in 2009.
Gott has two adult daughters by his former girl-friends. In January 2008 he married Ivana Machackova in Las Vegas. They have two daughters, born in 2006 and 2008.
