Prague, Aug 24 (CTK) – The salaries of Czech teachers will be raised by 6 percent and of other school employees by 4 percent as of September, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) wrote on Twitter during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

According to the new rules, young teachers will have their pay increased after two years, while now it is after six years.

The finances required for the pay rise in the education sector will be saved in the administration of the state debt.

The government decided on the pay rise in late July, but it still had to approve a change in the wage scale, which it did on Wednesday.

The pay rise will concern all public nursery, elementary and secondary schools ran either by the state or the regional authorities.

School trade unions have been calling for the increase in the pay for some time. They argued that the average salaries of teachers are below the national average wage.
