PM Babiš: Zeman crucial for government talks

The ANO movement sought its own maximum profit rather than a compromise in the talks about a possible Czech government and it preferred the interests of its leader Andrej Babis to those of the country, CSSD chairman Jan Hamacek told his party's congress on Saturday.

Communists ready to talk with Babiš about government's program

The Communist Party is ready to start negotiating with ANO leader Andrej Babis, who heads a minority cabinet that did not win support from parliament, if President Milos Zeman assigns him with forming the next government, KSCM chairman Vojtech Filip told journalists on Saturday.

ČSSD congress approves end of talks with ANO

The Social Democrats (ČSSD) approved the leadership's decision to end talks about a possible government with the ANO movement of Andrej Babiš at their congress on Saturday at which 277 delegates supported it, 20 voted against and 17 abstained from the vote. ČSSD chairman Jan Hamáček and first deputy chairman Jiří Zimola said they ended the talks with ANO because Babiš was unwilling to make any concession in personnel issues.

Justice Minister Pelikán decides to end in politics

Justice Minister Robert Pelikán will not be in the next government led by the ANO movement, which is likely to be formed within a few months, and he wants to give up his seat in the lower house of Czech parliament as well, he told Aktuálně.cz on Saturday.

Poll: Leading ANO loosing support, ODS, ČSSD gaining

The ANO movement would again clearly win the elections if they were held now, however, its popularity decreased last month, while that of the Civic Democrats (ODS) and the Social Democrats (ČSSD) went slightly up, according to the latest TNS Kantar poll.

Gov't talks break down in row over ministry posts

The Social Democratic party is ready to walk away from talks after the ANO party of PM Andrej Babiš rejected its proposals on forming a coalition government, party leader Jan Hamáček said on Thursday. Hamáček told reporters he would recommend his party leadership end talks with ANO when it meets on Friday. The party had sought the Interior or Finance Ministry as Babiš, a billionaire businessman, faces criminal charges over an alleged fraud a decade ago involving EU subsidies worth EUR 2 million.

Ťok among four acting ministers unwilling to serve in cabinet backed by Okamura

The minister of transport in the acting Czech cabinet, Dan Ťok, says he would not serve in a government kept in place by Tomio Okamura's Freedom and Direct Democracy party. Mr. Ťok, who is an ANO appointee, told the news site Novinky.cz that he would like to complete the work he has started at the Ministry of Transport but would not remain in government under any circumstances.

ANO receives gifts worth 34 million in 2017

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis's governing ANO accepted gifts worth 34 million crowns last year, roughly ten million less than in 2016, according to ANO's annual report released on Tuesday.
