Minister of Finance, Miroslav Kalousek (TOP 09), has admitted that he does not rule out the option of raising income tax for higher earners as a temporary measure to reduce the budget deficit, despite the fact that such a move would contradict his party’s ideological principals and his conviction that progressive taxation is counterproductive. Kalousek says he is considering the tax rise for the sake of public consensus over austerity measures and solidarity of the three-party ruling coalition.
