A yearly competition that finds the most talented TGI Friday’s bartenders in the Czech Republic returns to the American themed restaurant’s Anděl branch on 17th July.
The TGI Friday’s Bartender Championship is an international competition designed to root out the company’s master mixologists. The first leg of the competition takes place in Prague and is open to all TGI Friday’s bartenders in the Czech Republic.
“This year, TGI Friday’s in Prague has employed lots of new bartenders,” explains manager Helena Sŏchmanova, “We will have six new, locally based bartenders competing in the championship for the first time this year – making it the perfect event for people to see in action the new skills they have gained while working for us.”
The winner of this round goes to the next level, a regional final taking place in Poznan, who will compete against fellow winners from countries including Austria and . This is followed by a European final in Greece with the world final taking place in the USA. The winners of each stage receive all expenses paid travel to the next stage of the competition and a cash prize, and a winner from the 2013 Czech Republic competition made it to 2nd place in the European finals.
The country-wide stage of the championship is separated into certain categories, including a technical section in which bartenders demonstrate their understanding of the basics of mixology like spirit measurements and a knowledge section where bartenders select a cocktail from TGI Friday’s drink menu and make it in front of the competition judges.
The experienced panel of judges this year will include some of the city’s legendary bartenders, a former TGI Friday’s bar manager who now works as a leading consultant for the hospitality industry and further professionals to be announced.
