Spectators are invited to watch the Grand Finals taking place on Saturday, June 6th from 12:00 noon at CONSEQ Park, Velká Chuchle. Spectators can look forward to the excitement of thrills & spills on the field and a rich programme of entertainment off it. This year’s event is being held under the auspices of the Mexican Embassy as well as the City of Prague.
Polo fans, horse enthusiasts as well as active families are welcome to come and enjoy a day out and have a picnic at an exciting and unique sports event.
The Saturday’s Grand Finals will offer its spectators besides exciting matches also live music by Santiago Ferreira, cultural entertainment, „have-a-go-polo“ practice area, children’s corner by Pink Crocodile, bouncy castle, pony riding, BMW test driving and much more. Catering by Zátiši Group will offer refreshments and delicious lunches to the visitors. There will be prizes for best dressed Lady and Gentleman, so if you want to be in the running you had better let your sartorial elegance shine! And don’t forget to participate in the long-standing half-time tradition of “divot stomping” where spectators converge on to the field to stomp down the turf that has been torn up by the pony’s hooves.
The four competing teams are sponsored by BMW, Chateau Nine Peaks, Engine Classical Cars Automotive Fund and Thun Studio. Players are coming from Europe and worldwide and consist of enthusiastic amateurs and polo professionals. Exciting and high profile matches are therefore guaranteed.
Polo originated in Persia 2000 years ago, but it was globally popularized by the British who brought it from Northern India. Today it is becoming increasingly popular and is played in well over 50 countries throughout the world. Apart from Britain, polo is very popular in Argentina, some of the best players come from there. There is a growing interest in the sport in the Czech Republic too. How is polo played? Each team has four players who on their ponies use a mallet to drive a ball into the opposite goal. A game consists of four 7 minute chukkas, between or during which players change their ponies.
