Karlovy Vary, West Bohemia, July 1 (CTK) – One of the most popular Australian actors, Ben Mendelsohn, 46, will visit the 50th International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, west Bohemia, to be held on July 3-11, festival director Jiri Bartoska told journalists Wednesday.

Mendelsohn will present his latest film, Mississippi Grind (2014), in which he appeared in the leading role of a poker player, at the festival.

Critics highly acclaimed the film at the Sundance festival. Its directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will also arrive in Karlovy Vary along with the main protagonist, Bartoska said.

Festival artistic director Karel Och said U.S. director and scriptwriter George Romero would present not only his famous adaptation of Jacques Offenbach’s opera The Tales of Hoffmann, but also his science fiction horror-action movie The Crazies from 1973.

On Friday, July 10, the festival will show an openly erotic 3D film, Love by Gaspar Noe, which stirred up controversies in Cannes.

French film Amelie, which won the Crystal Globe main award in Karlovy Vary in 2001, will be screened at the open-air cinema on the last festival day.

The festival will be opened by Time Out of Mind directed by Oren Moverman with Richard Gere in the role of a homeless man in New York. He will also attend the event and receive the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema.
