Munich, Germany/Prague, Sept 7 (CTK) – Czech conductor Jakub Hrusa will be the chief conductor and music director of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra from the 2016/17 season, Bavarian Culture Minister Ludwig Spaenle and the orchestra’s chief executive Marcus Rudolf Axt told journalists Monday.
Hrusa signed a five-year contract with the orchestra. He will replace British conductor Jonathan Nott who has been the chief conductor since 2000.
This season, Hrusa’s first concerts with the orchestra will be held from November 12 to November 15 in Bayreuth, Schweinfurt and Bamberg, Germany.
Axt said Hrusa has conducted five concerts by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra so far.
“We have felt an almost miraculous artistic bond with him (Hrusa). We are looking very much forward to jointly developing our special, long created sound and to working together on breakthrough projects,” Axt said.
Hrusa, 34, studied conducting in Prague with Jiri Belohlavek, Radomil Eliska and Leos Svarovsky.
At present, Hrusa is a guest conductor of the Czech Philharmonic and the chief guest conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, he conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1946, is considered one of the best orchestras in Germany. Among its founders were the musicians of the German Philharmonic in Prague, which was abolished after World War Two. The orchestra’s chief conductors have included Joseph Keilberth, Eugen Jochum and Herbert Blomstedt.
