Prague, Oct 22 (CTK) – Czech Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova (5th in WTA standings) along with Lucie Safarova (9), Karolina Pliskova (15) and Barbora Strycova have been nominated for the Fed Cup tennis tournament’s final against Russia, the women’s tennis team captain, Petr Pala, told reporters Thursday.
Denisa Allertova will train with the team as a substitute.
The Fed Cup final will be played in Prague’s O2 arena on November 14-15.
Strycova has been nominated for the Fed Cup final for the first time.
Czechs won the Fed Cup tournament three times in the past few years: in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
Kvitova and Safarova played in all Fed Cup finals in 2011, 2012 and 2014. Since the 2011 season, Kvitova has lost only two of her 22 Fed Cup games.
The Russian Fed Cup team will comprise Maria Sharapova (3), Ekaterina Makarova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Yelena Vesnina.
The Czech women’s team played against Russians last time four years ago beating them in the final in Moscow. The team gained the first Fed Cup title in the history of the independent Czech Republic (established in 1993).
