Prague, Feb 4 (CTK) – A new gallery in the centre of Prague displays a secret flat of the Cuban communist revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara (1928-1967) who stayed in the Czech capital in the 1960s, daily Pravo wrote on Thursday.
The model of his conspiratory flat, situated in the cellar of the Spectrum Gallery in Stepanska street, is opened daily from 9:00 to 19:00.
It is furnished with period furniture and original accessories from the 1960s. Besides, a dummy of Guevara is lying on a sofa and reading papers.
“There is also his inseparable beret with a red star hanging on a rail and his original photograph evoking a dark atmosphere of the previous regime,” gallery director Tereza Smejkalova said.
The gallery also plans to send recordings of Guevara’s authentic speeches during the tours of the flat, Pravo writes.
It says Guevara had close relations to Prague. He visited it in 1960 and 1965. A year later, he spent several months there after his unsuccessful mission in Congo where he left to foment revolution.
In Prague, Guevara often changed his address and stayed at secret places, among others in a conspiratory flat of the Cuban secret service in Prague-Holesovice and a villa on the outskirts, in Ladvi.
Guevara, an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, guerrilla leader and diplomat, was captured by CIA-assisted Bolivian forces and executed in Bolivia in 1967, at the age of 39 only.
