Prague, Jan 17 (CTK) – Roughly three-quarters of Czechs who cast their votes for the unsuccessful candidates in the first round of the presidential election are ready to vote for Jiri Drahos in the second round, according to the latest poll released on Wednesday.
The poll was conducted by the polling agencies STEM/MARK and Median for the Institute for Democracy 21.
The poll did not ask the voters of Jiri Hynek, Petr Hannig and Vratislav Kulhanek, each of whom received less than 1.5 percent in the first round.
Incumbent President Milos Zeman and former Czech Academy of Sciences chairman Drahos advanced to the second round, scheduled for January 26-27.
The poll asked the question of whether the voters of former diplomat Pavel Fischer, entrepreneur and lyricist Michal Horacek, physician and activist Marek Hilser and former prime minister Mirek Topolanek would prefer Drahos or Zeman or whether they would skip the vote.
Drahos would be given the votes of 71-77 percent of the addressed voters of the failed candidates.
Zeman may be preferred by 15-22 percent of them.
Drahos is most backed by the voters of Fischer, while Zeman is quite popular with those of Topolanek.
Almost one-tenth of the followers of Horacek are not ready to go to the polling stations again.
Zeman advanced to the second round with almost 39 percent and Drahos with almost 27 percent. Fischer gained about 10 percent, Horacek and Hilser 9 percent each and Topolanek 4 percent.
The poll was conducted on a sample of 2,568 people on January 12-13, when the first round was held.
