Prague, Jan 18 (CTK) – Czech javelin champion Barbora Spotakova, 36, will not take part in competitions this season because she is pregnant and her second child is expected to be born in summer, she said in a press release on Thursday.
Spotakova, who has been the world record holder since 2008, plans to start training again in the autumn. She would like to prepare for the 2019 season and her main goal is the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
“I already know that the role of a mother and the sport career can be combined well,” Spotakova said.
Her first baby, son Janek, was born in May 2013. In the summer of 2014, she won the European championship.
Spotakova won the Olympic competition in javelin in Beijing (2008) and London (2012) and she was third at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (2016). Last year, she won the world championship in London.
