According the Czech Statistical Office’s estimate, this year’s grain harvest is 7.9 % lower than that of the previous year. While the yield of several major crops including potatoes, peas and sugar beet has gone down, harvested rapeseed has increased by over 20 % in comparison to last year. Potatoes have seen one of the worst harvests in the Czech Republic in monitoring history, with yields of around 557,000 tons. Czech Radio reports that only in 2013 and 2015 was the amount lower, although the planted area has slightly decreased to almost 23,000 hectares.
