The Czech lands have produces a number of notable opera stars. Among them is Jarmila Novotná, who sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York for 16 years, from 1940 to 1956. Several of her opera costumes have been preserved by the Met, and negotiations to borrow them for an exhibition at Prague’s Municipal House took three years.
