Prague/Tokyo, Nov 2 (CTK) – Czech Family Film directed by Slovenian-born Olmo Omerzu has won the award for the best artistic achievement at the International Film Festival in Tokyo, Bohuslava Holubova, from the public Czech Television, a co-producer of the film, told CTK Monday.
A six-member jury chaired by director Bryan Singer assessed 20 films in competition at the Tokyo festival held on October 22-31.
“We are very proud of the success of Family Film,” producer Jiri Konecny, from Endorfilm, said at a press conference in Tokyo, adding that the last Czech film presented at this festival was the Oscar-winning Kolya in 1996.
Family Film was shot in an international co-production of the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia, France and Slovakia.
It tells a story of a married couple who set sail across the ocean, leaving their two teenage children to explore the freedom of being home alone. However, the boat goes under and so does the family.
Family Film will be released in Czech cinemas on December 10.
Omerzu, 30, who graduated from the Film Academy (FAMU) in Prague, scored an international success with his debut A Night Too Young (2011). Family Film is his second full-length feature film.
