Uherske Hradiste, South Moravia, July 24 (CTK) – Finnish film director Mika Kaurismaki received the annual prize of the Association of Czech Film Clubs (AFCK) for his contribution to world cinematography at the opening of the 41st Summer Film School (LFS) on Friday.

Another guest to be awarded at the festival will be Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf who will present his most famous films.

Last year, the main prizes went to British film director Peter Greenaway and French director Bertrand Tavernier.

The LFS, the biggest Czech non-competition film festival, will last until August 1 and offer about 240 films.

It will focus on Finland, with about 30 films showing the whole history of Finnish cinematography, including those by Mika Kaurismaki and his brother Aki.

Czech documentary filmmaker Helena Trestikova and Czech actor Boleslav Polivka will be awarded at the LFS this year as well.

Two programme sections will mark the 70th anniversary of Victory, one presenting the works of Czech filmmakers in British exile during World War Two and the other one called War Over? showing Hungarian, Polish, Slovak and Czech films about WW2 and the Holocaust trauma.

Another bloc will bring new films from the four above countries of the Visegrad Group.

The Film and Live Music: Silent (Restored) section will offer all Alfred Hitchcock’s silent works.

Fans of Polish film will see Andrzej Wajda’s films, the latest pictures made in Poland and a section focusing on Poland’s post-war developments in film.
