Czech Republic has the potential for self-sufficiency in egg production. Egg imports in 2015 totalled almost 800 million, though, up 123 million y/y, the Ministry of Agriculture informs. Origin could not be detected in the case of some of the imported eggs and they have thus higher health risks. Egg consumption in CR totals 260 per year. The majority of the eggs are Czech-made. Agricultural companies account for 60% of Czech egg production and the rest comes from homes.
