The supervisory authorities of six eastern members of the European Union issued a joint statement Wednesday downplaying the risks to Western European banks that have high exposure to Eastern Europe, and urging investors to distinguish between individual countries in the region. Information about risks in Eastern Europe “is often simplified and misleading and could have negative implications for banks operating in these countries,” the bankers said.
