Prague, July 27 (CTK) – The Czech government approved on Wednesday a proposal by the Industry and Trade Ministry which accelerates the employment of medium-qualified people from Ukraine, minister Jan Mladek (Social Democrats) has told journalists.
He said up to 5000 Ukrainians can come to the Czech Republic annually, but he added that the quota which was approved previously already is not being filled.
The ministerial proposal reacts to firms’ complaints about the settlement of employment cards for Ukrainians being too lengthy.
Jan Wiesner, head of the Confederation of Employer and Business Unions (KZPS), said recently that the lack of workers and the long deadlines for settling labour permits forces firms to reject orders.
The ministerial proposal does not relate to high qualification experts. Another government project targets them.
Ukrainians can seek a position which cannot be filled by a citizen of the Czech Republic or another EU country.
Trade unions are opposed to filling vacancies by people from Ukraine. They say Czechs are not interested in the positions because they are badly remunerated.
Josef Stredula, head of the CMKOS umbrella trade union organisation, said in mid-June that it is necessary to first raise wages to a level that is higher than welfare benefits.
