The center-right Czech coalition government of Prime Minister Petr Nečas has pushed through what has been described as the biggest package of tax changes ever — and what amounts to the burial of the flagship flat tax principle championed by the ODS. The tax changes, combined with spending cuts, seek to cut the budget deficit in 2013 to 2.9% of GDP with the figure falling to 1.9% of GDP in 2014 and 0.9% of GDP in 2015.
