Imagine a city in which cafés suddenly put up tables and chairs on the pavement. Where passers-by simply sit down and start talking to each other. Somebody takes out a guitar and starts playing while children play in a street, which has been transformed into truely public space.

All that will become reality – for one day – as part of the Different City Experience festival on Saturday, September 22nd. For one day, we will change the face of Prague and turn it into a city made for people. The Different City Experience (Zažít město jinak) is organised by Auto*Mat.

In the seven years of its existence the festival has transformed from a small get-together in the centre of town into a citywide celebration of Prague’s neighbourhoods. This year the festival will také place in more than 20 places across Prague, from Žižkov to Dejvice, from Vršovice to Bráník, from Vinohrady to Smíchov and many more.

The festival kicks off with the traditional Big Autumn Critical Mass Bike Ride, which starts off from Václavské náměstí at 10 am. Bike-fans can try out new cycles at Václavské náměstí, while everybody can take part in our Festival Treasure hunt.

Last year visitors could enjoy an authentic Mexican street party on Vinohrady or a playground in front of the Bio Oko cinema on Letná. This year we offer even more. Brace yourselves for a truckload of activities, ranging from public screenings or swap-shops to street bowling and live concerts.

The festival is organised by Auto*Mat in cooperation with local groups and businesses. The inhabitants of the festival zones are in charge of the programmes in the neighbourhoods.

If you want to be kept up to date with everything that is happening, why not become a fan of Zažít město jinak on Facebook (in Czech).
