Prague, 18th, July, 2012: At a press conference held this morning, 18TH July, CTE Tourism, the organizers of the forthcoming international football tournament for top youth teams (under 19) from Central & Eastern Europe (CEE) known as the UNICEF CEE Cup, introduced some of its main partners and discussed in detail the programme and activities that can be expected during the week-long tournament that starts this Sunday, 22nd July.
The press conference, which was held in one of the main partner’s premises, the Hervis store in OC Novy Smichov, was opened by the Managing Director of CTE Tourism, Roberto De Blasio, who explained the history of the event, the programme that can be expected, and the teams that are taking part. He also introduced some of the partners attending, saying:
“We are delighted to have been able to attract such established and respected partners for the competition, as, of course, without them it is impossible to put on an event of this complexity. We are particularly excited to have UNICEF as the title partner as we are keen to ensure that we fulfill part of our aim, which is that we support those that are less fortunate than ourselves by donating part of the proceeds from the event to UNICEF.”
The opening event, known as the “Inauguration Day”, is on Sunday evening from 17:00 and will start with the Opening Ceremony, followed by demonstrations by some of the “Vršovický dloubák” competitors, and then the opening match between the Bohemians 1905 and FK Sarajevo. This will be followed by 6 days of football competition that will take place in the Strahov and Satalice stadiums, and will culminate in the Grand Final on Sunday, 29th July, in the Bohemians’ Ďolíček stadium. The Grand Final will include an award ceremony for the third and fourth placed teams, freestyle football and frisbee entertainment , the final match and the final award ceremony for the best and second placed goal keeper and the best and second placed goal scorer, as well as the best overall player.
The list of teams taking part include last year’s winners, FK Mladá Boleslav, as well as Bohemians 1905, AC Sparta Praha and 1.FC Slovácko from the Czech Republic.
The competition “Vrsovicky Dloubak” is an integral part of this year’s tournament and was inspired by the European Cup winning penalty taking by Antonin Panenka for Czechoslovakia at the European Championships in 1976 and known, thereafter, as the “dloubak”. The winner in the 14-16 year category of the Vrsovicky Dloubak competition wins a prize to the Allianz Junior Football Camp 2012 in Münich, Germany (sponsored by Allianz), and will also have the chance to show off their skills as part of the Inauguration Day ceremony. The winner of the 10-13 year category will get a one year subscription to the Hattrick football magazine and a FIFA football set.
The main partners of the UNICEF CEE Cup 2012 are Allianz, Hervis, TVO Europe and ESPN Classic. Talking about its title partnership, Pavla Gomba, director of UNICEF in the Czech Republic, said:
“Football is more than just a game – it is the core of childhood and one of the best ways for children to learn teamwork, tolerance and the value of fair play. The UNICEF CEE Cup helps to bring hope to hundreds of vulnerable children where it is most needed.”
UNICEF has a long list of ambassadors and patrons. Amongst them is Olga Lounová, who will be performing during the Inauguration Day and singing the Czech National Anthem. The tournament focuses on “Respect”, “Fair Play” and “Competitiveness”, all of which are very important for today’s youth players, and it is building to be an even bigger and better event than last year. The organizers are hoping to fill the stadium and, consequently, raise a great deal of money.
