Prague, Feb 8 (CTK) – The Prague-based National Museum has opened a travelling exhibition called Masaryk as a Phenomenon, describing the personality of the first Czechoslovak President Tomas Garrigue Masaryk (1918-1935) at the Czech embassy in Washington this week.
The exhibition will continue until March 7 there and then it will be gradually installed in some more U.S. cities, Pavlina Charvatova, from the museum press department, said.
The exhibition is held within the programme of foreign events celebrating the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia. With its photos, exhibits and audio visual projections, it describes Masaryk’s life and relationship with the USA.
“The exhibition Masaryk as a Phenomenon was inspired by the eponymous exhibition project that was held in the National Museum in Prague between September 15 and the end of January. It introduced Masaryk in the role of a professor, president and also father and husband,” Charvatova said.
A major attention is paid to Masaryk’s relationship with the USA, which played a vital role not only in his personal and working life, but also in his “life-time project,” the effort to have independent Czechoslovakia recognised during World War One.
“The signing of the Philadelphia Declaration on October 26, 1918 is one of the most important moments of Czechoslovakia’s establishment,” Charvatova said.
The audio visual projections address the visitors by word and sound. One can hear Masaryk’s statements in English and German there.
