Prague, Aug 9 (CTK) – Czech journalist and globetrotter Jaroslav Sima has reached Bamako, 9,000 kilometres away from Prague, after a ride on a replica of the legendary mini bike Honda Monkey lasting 32 days, Sima’s collaborators have told CTK.

Sima started in Prague in the second half of June.

Sima, almost two metres tall, had to place all his baggage and equipment on the smallest motorcycle he could choose for the journey.

The motorcycle Rahier MG with the volume of 125 ccm, based on the legendary Honda Monkey from 1967, resembles a child toy.

Despite adverse weather at the beginning, Sima surmounted the Alps on the mini bike, although the temperatures dropped close to zero at night and there was heavy rain during the day.

On the Spanish plains, the situation absolutely reversed and the rider and his machine struggled with temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius that surged over 50 degrees after the Moroccan south.

The ride over the 1,000 km section through the desert in Mauritania in the temperatures close to 60 degrees Celsius was almost a struggle for bare life.

Everything changed when he drove across the Malian border facing a sand storm and subsequent regular monsoon rains.

Upon arrival in Bamako, Sima visited the Czech troops serving under the EU flag there.

At present, Sima is riding his “monkey” in the direction of Dakar from where he will start the ride back to the Czech Republic.

Sima, 58, has been travelling on motorcycles for three decades. He has driven over 1.250 million kilometres on them, using both the Czech-made Jawa and the Honda or BMW.
