Shoes are something that we probably take for granted. Some of us spend small fortunes on new pairs that we hardly even wear. But did you know that about 40% of the world’s population don’t even have shoes and can’t afford to buy any?

Shoe brand TOMS are famous for their ‘one for one’ concept- for every pair of TOMS you buy, they will provide a pair of shoes for those who need them. The brand itself is popular around the world, and is now available here in the Czech Republic, at www.urbanlux.cz or in Destroy, Bata and Freshlabels stores.

Every year TOMS organises an event called One Day Without Shoes. This is a barefoot march, helping to raise awareness of the plight of those without shoes. The event itself is huge, and is joined by thousands of people worldwide, including schools, celebrities and companies. By taking off your shoes, tweeting or facebooking a picture with the hashtag #withoutshoes (or in the Czech Republic #bezbot) you can help to raise awareness of the startling statistic above.

On the 29th of April, a similar barefoot march will be held in Prague, starting at 4pm at Žofín island and marching along the embankment, whilst filming a special music video, to Bajkazyl at Náplavka. Featuring musicians like Honza Muchow, Tata Bojs, Please The Trees and Charlie One, it promises to be a great event – especially if the weather keeps up! For some more information and to rsvp to the event, check out the facebook page here.

So if you want to help raise awareness and join the likes of Toni&Guy, advertising agency Taxi, actors and actresses Ana Geislerova, Klara Issova, Jiri Madl, Emma Smetana and Lejla Abbasova, Tonya Graves and Aneta Langerova, then why not join in the march, or just simply take off your shoes in the office, share your pictures or videos, and help to give underprivileged children the shoes they deserve.
