Prague, Oct 5 (CTK) – Das Filmfest, an annual festival of German-language films in Prague, will be held in the Lucerna and Atlas cinemas on October 19-23, offering about 40 new films of various genres made in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In late October, the festival will move to Brno where it will run through November 3.

Many of the festival films will simultaneously appear as a regular programme in Czech cinemas, including Egon Schiele, the story of the late Austrian painter, 24 Weeks, a drama nominated for a European film award, thriller The Dark Side of the Moon, and Fog in August, a historical story from a child rehabilitation centre.

“This is a sign for us that the German-speaking cinematography has been gaining importance,” Sarah Polewsky from the Austrian Cultural Forum said.

The screenings will be complemented by discussion meetings with film makers.

All films will have Czech and mostly also English subtitles.

The Das Filmfest Spezial section will offer the award-winning film Toni Erdmann and the film Amateur Teens, that shows how extreme impact the pressure of social networks can have.

The Die Doku section will offer the Switz film Carl Lutz – A Forgotten Hero, about a man who saved over 60,000 Hungarian Jews during WWII.

The festival has been organised by the Goethe-Institute, the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Swiss Embassy in Prague.

More information about it are available on www.dasfilmfest.cz.
