Prague, Feb 3 (CTK) – Seven out of ten Czechs want President Milos Zeman to speak critically about the activities of the government and parties, according to a poll conducted by the STEM polling institute in December and released Wednesday.

On the other hand, some 44 percent agree with the view that Zeman intervenes too much in the political developments.

The poll has found that Zeman has managed to be a “people’s” president and with his activities he has not harmed the dignity of the presidential office.

The followers of the Communists (KSCM) and Social Democrats (CSSD) tend to demand more that Zeman be critical of the government and parties than the rest.

Zeman is mostly criticised for this by voters of right-wing parties.

All population groups agree that Zeman should stand not only outside, but also beyond parties, critically watching their activities.

The non-partisan approach is demanded by 88 percent of the respondents.

Some 61 percent of Czechs are of the view it would be right if the political system had a strong president with large executive powers.

The poll was conducted on a sample of 1,014 Czechs between December 3 and 11, 2015.
