Prague, April 4 (CTK) – Finance Minister and Andrej Babis (ANO) remains the most popular Czech politician with 56 percent support, ahead of Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky (ANO) who sent Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) to third position, according to a STEM poll released on Monday.

Sobotka shares third position with Interior Minister Milan Chovanec (CSSD).

All four of them lost support compared with last year, STEM found out.

“The assessment of the major government parties’ heads, Sobotka and Babis, has reached a record low since the appointment of the government (in January 2014),” STEM said.

It said their popularity is harmed by disputes between the government coalition members and the Capi hnizdo (Stork’s Nest) conference centre may also play a role.

In the case, billionaire businessman Babis is suspected of a subsidy fraud.

Sobotka registered the biggest popularity decline – from 56 to 50 percent. Babis and Stropnicky lost 5 percent each.

Chovanec’s popularity dropped by 3 percentage points to 50 percent, which may be due to the migrant crisis becoming less acute, STEM said.

STEM conducted the poll on 1050 people between March 16 and 23. The questioning was done mainly before the terrorist attacks in Brussels on March 22, STEM said in relation to Chovanec’s results.
