Prague, Jan 10 (CTK) – The mandate and immunity committee of the Czech Chamber of Deputies has invited former detective Jiri Komarek for its Tuesday meeting, head of the TOP 09 and a member of the committee, Miroslav Kalousek, told journalists on Wednesday.
Kalousek said this was a horrendous decision and an affair that was not within powers of the committee.
Another member of the committee, Marek Vyborny (Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL), said deputies for Prime Minister Andrej Babis’s ANO and the Direct Democracy Party (SPD) had voted for the invitation.
They are looking for reasons thanks to which the SPD might change its mind and refuse the release for criminal prosecution of Babis and ANO first deputy head Jaroslav Faltynek, who may face it over an EU subsidy fraud.
Kalousek warned that Komarek was convicted of leak of secret information, though the verdict had not taken effect.
He said Komarek had the task of telling the committee “something the colleagues want to hear.”
“I stress that the committee is no law-enforcement body and it should not summon witnesses,” he added.
Vyborny said over his testimony, Komarek had to be relieved of secrecy, which was highly unlikely.
Jakub Michalek, chairman of the Pirates deputy group, said Komarek had some compromising information on Pavel Nevtipil, the investigator of the Capi hnizdo farm case, in which Babis and Faltynek are implicated.
ANO deputy Tatana Mala said Komarek had spoken about a connection between the investigator and organised crime.
She said the committee considered it important to be told the information.
