Pruhonice, Central Bohemia, April 16 (CTK) – Petr Gazdik was re-elected leader of the Czech Mayors and Independents (STAN) movement for a one-year term as he gained 133 out of 144 votes at the STAN national congress on Saturday.

Vit Rakusan, mayor of Kolin, central Bohemia, was elected Gazdik’s first deputy with 137 votes.

Gazdik has been heading the STAN since 2009. The movement is in parliament due to a cooperation with the conservative opposition TOP 09.

Gazdik is now facing the task of succeeding in the autumn regional elections.

Gazdik said the elections would also decide on the future of the Czech Republic as it was suffering from a “silent crisis” and anxiety over the migrant crisis.

The nation lacks a strategic vision with which to overcome it, he added.

The STAN is ready to offer such a vision, Gazdik said.

The STAN will run in the regional elections mostly along with other regional centrist groupings such as East Bohemians, ZVUK12 in central Moravia, Independent Election in north Moravia and Patriotic Citizens in Plzen, west Bohemia.

Security and preparation of emergency plans in various spheres will be the top priority of STAN that also promises broad access to public services.

STAN also promises disclosure of economic management of regions and changes in their financing from taxes.
