Pardubice, East Bohemia, Jan 18 (CTK) – Czech presidential candidate Jiri Drahos’s wife Eva Drahosova joined him in his campaign before the runoff vote visiting a retirement home in Prelouc, east Bohemia, and she is planning separate visits to other regions, too, she has told CTK.

Tonight, Drahosova is to meet Pardubice Mayor Martin Charvat (ANO) and the region’s Governor Martin Netolicky (Social Democrats, CSSD), who both support Drahos in the vote.

She and her husband have different schedules in order to reach out to more people, she said.

Drahos was visiting the Pilsen Region on Thursday.

A majority of voters aged over 60 cast their votes for current President Milos Zeman in the first round, according to a survey conducted on January 13.

In the retirement home, Drahosova got to know its functioning and spoke with its residents. Some of them told her they had voted for Zeman in the first round.

“It’s because he is already acquainted with it [being a president],” Miroslav Valenta, one of the residents, told Drahosova.

“I was expecting this a bit,” she commented, adding she was sorry people were easily convinced by untrue arguments.

In Jablunkov, the home town of Drahos in north Moravia, she said she overheard on Tuesday that the president had the power to take away one’s pension.

“Simply nonsense,” she said.

During her meeting with the public in Pardubice’s regional library on Thursday, she addressed a question of what to say to those who assert Drahos is a Freemason.

“He is not a Freemason, he is not a pedophile, he did not collaborate with the StB [Communist secret police] and he was not a member of the [Communist] party. It is peculiar that this information has swarmed but now,” she said appealing on people not to trust slander.

On Friday, she is to go to the Liberec Region, north Bohemia.

Zeman’s wife Ivana Zemanova became the head of the petition committee for the collection of signatures for his registration as a candidate, but otherwise she does not actively promote him.

She told the iDnes server on Thursday she would be happy to accompany Zeman to the planned TV debates prior to the vote and that she would support him in public if he said it would be appropriate, because she had always supported him.
