Prague, Jan 19 (CTK) – The director of the Motol University Hospital in Prague, Miloslav Ludvik, resigned as chairman of the Prague branch of Social Democrats (CSSD) at its regional conference on Friday, three sources from the party have told journalists.

Along with members of the regional executive committee, Ludvik already proposed his resignation after the October general election, in which the party was routed with the mere 7.3 percent of the vote nationally, while in Prague it only gained 5.6 percent.

Ludvik became the chairman of the Prague branch in December 2014. In December 2016, he was re-elected by 99 out of the 160 delegates.

His mandate was to finish at the end of this year.

He was the health minister in the coalition government headed by Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka between 2016 and 2017.

Ludvik will be succeeded by former deputy education minister Petr Pavlik, who became the new chairman of the Prague Social Democrat branch on Friday. He was the only candidate in a secret vote in which he received 127 votes out of the total 166.
