Prague, Oct 7 (CTK) – President Milos Zeman signed the accompanying letter and chairman of the Czech Olympic Committee Jiri Kejval the application for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 Wednesday, meeting the two basic conditions for the Czech participation in the games.
The two documents must be delivered to the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne by November 5.
The Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be held on August 5-21, 2016.
In London three years ago, Czech athletes gained 10 medals, including three gold ones.
“The Olympic Games will be an excellent sports event, but also an excellent opportunity to present the Czech Republic,” Kejval said.
“I expect the athletes to at least follow up the successful games in London and Sochi,” he added.
The ceremony was attended by Education Minister Katerina Valachova and over 50 athletes.
At present, the Czech Republic has 52 participant places in nine sports. In all, the Czech Republic is expected to nominate 130 athletes.
