Martin Šonka plunges into the heart of the action once again as the first race of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship kicks off this weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi (UAE) – He couldn’t wait. Amid freezing Moravian temperatures, Martin Sonka and his team tried to tweak their plane for optimal performance before it had to be dismantled and sent in parts to the first stop of the racing season: Abu Dhabi. “Other pilots also didn’t rest,” said Sonka. “Additionally, we were joined by two newcomers, who will want to show. It’ll be a close race,” he predicted.

In addition to these two pilots, several new races have been added to this year’s championship as well. “Because there’ll be more fans, we will see even more fights,” said Sonka.“It will be harder to get through to the final four.” But his focus remains the same as ever. “Anyway, our goal is always to make it to the podium… nothing has changed.”

Nothing, that is, except some aerodynamic enhancements and the introduction of a new weapon: a racing simulator. “For this, I’m very happy, because other top pilots have it, and it is, for them, a huge advantage. In fact, we’re now even with them. While there’s still work to be done, I’m very happy, it helps a lot. Big thanks to our partners!”

For the third season in a row, the company Agrofert will act as the official team partner of Team Sonka. “We’re very happy to have each of our partners. Without them, it would simply not be possible to move forward. It gives us the chance to focus on the details, which then determine success.”

You can catch the live broadcast of the first Red Bull Air Race World Championship race in Abu Dhabi at 13:00 on Czech Television network CT Sport.
