Prague, Feb 23 (CTK) – Tomas Berdych, the world’s tennis number seven player, will lead the Czech team in the Davis Cup 1st round match in Germany on March 4-6, which will also include Radek Stepanek, Lukas Rosol and Jiri Vesely, the team’s non-playing captain Jaroslav Navratil announced on Tuesday.
The match will be played in Hannover.
Navratil said he had no problem choosing the team members.
“The most important thing is that Tomas Berdych is rejoining the team, because we will face a very hard match in Germany,” Navratil said.
Berdych, 30, played Davis Cup in September 2014 for the last time, when the Czechs lost the semifinal to France.
Last year, he excused himself from the nomination twice.
Berdych, who played the Australian Open quarterfinal earlier this year, will be number one player in the Hannover singles, and he will play the doubles together with Stepanek.
The Czechs won Davis Cup matches against Germany four times, the Germans beat them ten times.
If the Czechs won in Hannover and advanced to the quarterfinal, they would face the winner of the Canada vs France match.
