One of the biggest concerts this year in Prague will take place Thursday as Madonna brings her Sticky & Sweet Tour to town. About 40,000 people are expected to attend the event in Chodov, Prague 4. Tickets are still available from CZK 995. Unless you have a ticket, avoid the area as it will be a mess. But if you have to be there, take the metro. It will run almost every 2 minutes. Since Strahov can no longer be used as a venue for concerts and Letná is out of question due to the tunnel construction, Chodov could become the city’s new concert venue. But only if Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet is not too noisy and messy. The localsContinue Reading

Overcrowded kindergartens may not be a problem anymore. (ČTK) Parents who want to put their child in a nursery school or kindergarten might spend a long time searching. The Czech Republic doesn’t have enough daycare centres to address the baby boom and the private facilities are expensive for many families. A new legislation, proposed by the Labour and Social Affairs Ministry and approved by the government this week, could help solve the problem. The so called family package introduces a number of new regulations such as creating state-paid one-week holiday for fathers, flexible job opportunities or company kindergartens. The aim is to help parents manage both work and raising children. Under the proposal, the father could apply for state-paid one-weekContinue Reading

A goat path leading from the Zoo bus stop to the Botanical Garden in Prague’s Trója goes around a house with a sign advertising gardening services. Anyone passing by in the morning may see a group of people with gardening tools digging around the hilly place. Few would notice that these gardeners have psychiatric problems. Alice Frelichová, 31, developed schizophrenia eight years ago when she was working as a shop assistant. Since 2004 she has been receiving full disability pension. Between 2005 and 2006, Alice worked as a cleaning lady at a bar before she came to Zahrada three months ago. “I like working here.
