The Czech EU presidency called for an emergency summit on the economic crisis Monday as a row between Prague and Paris escalated over French plans to help its ailing auto sector. Czech PM Mirek Topolánek said “protectionist” comments by French President Nicolas Sarkozy had helped drive him into the step. A letter obtained by Reuters showed Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel jointly urging Topolánek to organise the meeting.
