Half of Czech men and one third of Czech women admit that they have had extramarital affairs, the fourth “part” of a long-term research project on the sexual behaviour of Czechs has shown.
The research by the Sexuological Institute of Charles University comparing the bedroom habits of Czechs every five years has shown that in comparison with 10 years ago, extramarital affairs have decreased. In 1998 two thirds of men and almost half of women acknowledged infidelity.
Promiscuity is not rising
On average, Czechs have intercourse twice a week with each time lasting less than 30 minutes, including foreplay.
The number of sexual partners has remained approximately the same since the beginning of the 1990s. “It means that promiscuity is not rising,” said the sexologist Petr Weiss.
An average man has 9.4 female partners during life according to sexologists, while women have 5.3 male partners. In the past year, a statistically-average man had slightly more than one female partner, while an average woman had only 0.99 male partners.
The age when Czechs start with their sex life has also not been changing in the long term. With men it is slightly less than 18 years, with women it is slightly above 18.
The first intimacies of young Czechs usually take place in nature. Half of the respondents their first sexual intercourse took place outdoors. Parents’ flats or dormitories are used for first amorous attempts much less often. Czechs are becoming more responsible about first-time sex. Only half of the respondents said they had unprotected sex the first time. One quarter of sexual novices use condoms, others rely on coitus interruptus or hormonal contraceptives.
Delicate masturbation
More and more Czechs admit in the surveys that they masturbate. According to the latest numbers 90% of men and 65% of women masturbate.
Although the number of those who admit that they have sometimes masturbated is growing, attitudes to masturbation are still reserved.
One fifth of men consider masturbation a bad habit, 4% even think that it is harmful. Almost 30% of women consider masturbation a bad habit and less than 10% think it is harmful.
Sexologists were traditionally interested not only in hard data, but also in the quality of the sex life of Czechs. Men and women suffer from sexual dysfunction to the same extent: It affects one fifth of the population in both groups.
Men most often cite state troubles with erection and premature ejaculation. Women suffer from insufficient vaginal lubrication, pain during intercourse and anorgasmia or the inability to reach orgasm.
Women are more likely to fake an orgasm, one fifth of them do so often or during everytime they have sex. Men fake orgasm rarely.
When researchers were asking about the sexual appetite of their respondents, they found out that over 80% of men and only two thirds of women have sufficient sexual activity.
Men are those who look for paid sexual services more often. Fourteen percent acknowledged intercourse with a prostitute, the same number as five years ago. Ten years ago only 9% of Czech men confessed to commercial sex. Compared to past years, the clients of prostitutes protect themselves by using condoms more often.
