Prague, Sept 11 (CTK) – Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) will attend a summit against Islamic State and terrorism in New York on September 29, the Government Office wrote in a press release Friday.
President Milos Zeman and Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek (CSSD) will also be in New York at the end of September to attend a session of the U.N. General Assembly.
Sobotka wrote that he considers participation in the summit “exceptionally important. Islamic State represents a big threat to international security against which an uncompromising struggle must be led.”
“To resolve the migration crisis now inflicting Europe, the situation in the Middle East must be stabilised first of all, which is not possible without the defeat or dramatic weakening of ISIL,” Sobotka wrote.
ISIL is an abbreviation of Islamic State of Iraq and in the Levant, which IS used before it declared the caliphate in June 2014.
The September 29 summit will be held on the margin of the U.N. General Assembly session.
This will be Sobotka’s second visit to the United States since he became prime minister in January 2014.
