Brno, Oct 2 (CTK) – The Regional Court in Brno has received a complaint by U.S. citizen Kevin Dahlgren, charged with a four-time murder, against his custody in the Czech Republic, court spokeswoman Gabriela Stockova told CTK Friday.
Dahlgren was extradited from the United States to the Czech Republic where he landed on August 31. He was transported to Brno where he was placed in a police cell.
Now he stays in a custody prison in Brno-Bohunice waiting for his trial.
If found guilty by Czech courts, Dahlgren would face 15-20 years in prison or even life imprisonment r.
Dahlgren wanted to be prosecuted without taking into custody and offered a bail. However, a judge rejected such a possibility and insisted on his detention.
Dahlgren filed a complaint against the custody.
The Regional Court has no deadline by which it must process the complaint. Dahlgren’s defence Richard Spisek lawyer said he expected the decision within two weeks.
Dahlgren is charged with having killed his cousin, her husband and their two sons in Brno, where he worked as an English teacher, in May 2013. The motive of the murders is unknown. He pleads not guilty.
After the murder, Dahlgren took taxi to reach Vienna, from where he left for the United States. During the flight, the Czech authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, based on which he was detained by the FBI on his arrival at the Washington airport on May 23.
Dahlgren was in custody in the United States from May 2013. The Czech authorities were negotiating about his extradition that was approved in late August.
This has been the first case of the United States extraditing its citizen to the Czech Republic.
