Prague, Oct 18 (CTK) – Israeli President Reuven Rivlin will meet leading Czech politicians in Prague and visit Terezin, north Bohemia, where the Nazis established a prison and a ghetto (Theresienstadt) in wartime, during his visit to the Czech Republic next week, according to CTK’s information.
The agenda of Rivlin’s talks in Prague may include armament cooperation.
Czech President Milos Zeman invited Rivlin to Prague after his election as Israeli president in June 2014.
Rivlin is to arrive on Tuesday evening and stay in the Czech Republic until Friday.
On Wednesday and Thursday, he is to meet Zeman, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, and heads of the lower and upper houses of parliament, Jan Hamacek and Milan Stech (all Social Democrats, CSSD).
Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said Rivlin will be accompanied by a delegation of Israeli businesspeople, who are to meet their Czech counterparts at a Czech-Israeli Business Forum.
Zeman and Rivlin are to discuss bilateral projects in the area of security and Czech projects in Israel concerning logistics and rail transport.
They will also touch on the post-election developments in Israel, including the worsened security situation, Ovcacek said.
Rivlin’s visit “expresses the special character of relations between the two countries,” Ovcacek said.
Zeman is known as an ardent fan of Israel.
Katerina Navarova, from the Czech Retia company, said Rivlin and Czech leaders may discuss Prague’s plan to buy new 3D radars worth several billion crowns.
The media previously wrote that the order may be placed, based on a Czech-Israeli inter-government agreement, with the Israeli Elta Systems company that offers such equipment in cooperation with Retia.
