Prague, March 23 (CTK) – A project to upgrade the protection of the Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague worth 200 million crowns will be finished next year, Interior Minister Milan Chovanec (Social Democrats, CSSD) told journalists on Wednesday.
It will include a modern camera and detection system able to identify faces, Chovanec said.
“We will invest roughly 200 million crowns in security at the airport,” he added.
“The money will be spent on the projects that are to raise the resilience of the airport against terrorist activities,” Chovanec said one day after the terrorist attacks in Brussels that claimed 30 lives.
Specialists from Israel, who will arrive in the Czech Republic in the weeks to come, will take part in the project, one-third of which has been finished, he added.
It will result in a 21st century detection system able to identify faces, too, Chovanec said.
The measures on which Cesky Aeroholding, which manages the airport, the police, the BIS Security Information Service and the Customs Authority agreed last year already, include a shooting range at which the airport guards will train action right at the airport terminal.
Further elements are to be integrated into the security system such as the checking of entry of entitled persons to the airport premises, the detection of radioactive materials and the checking of suspicious objects.
