Prague, July 25 (CTK) – Czech police registered 115,314 crimes in the first six month of the year, which is a decrease by 11.3 percent compared with the situation from January to June 2015, and 42.5 percent of the cases have been solved so far, according to the latest data that they released on Monday.
In the first half of 2016, 7735 violent crimes occurred, including 65 murders. Last year, the police investigated 89 murders in the first six months.
The number of thefts and burglaries considerably decreased this year, from 42,242 to 36,278 and from 18,537 to 14,695, respectively. There was also a decrease in economic crime, from 16,657 to 15,419 cases.
In total, the crimes caused a damage of nearly 12 billion crowns from January to June.
Compared with 2014, the crime rate decreased by 14.2 percent in the Czech Republic last year.
The police say the crime rate lowered thanks to economic growth, decreasing unemployment, increasing living standard and better security of buildings.
