New York, Sept 20 (CTK special correspondent) – Czech President Milos Zeman invited Pope Francis to the Czech Republic again, through Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, before the opening of a debate of the 71st Regular Session of the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday.
Zeman is to give a speech focused on the fight against terrorism during the annual general debate on Wednesday.
The U.N. session is accompanied by strict security measures in the streets of New York where an improvised explosive device (IED) blasted at the weekend.
Before the opening of the session, Zeman had a short meeting with Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov and Parolin.
“The president has again invited Pope Francis to the Czech Republic,” Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said on Twitter.
Zeman invited the Pope to Prague during a private meeting last year as well.
Zeman also met U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon yesterday.
