Prague, Oct 1 (CTK) – Public Czech Television (CT) will broadcast a TV premiere of the documentary Citizen Havel Rolls Another Barrel and a live transmission of a Czech Philharmonic concert among its programmes to mark the 80th birth anniversary of the late former president and playwright Vaclav Havel, CT has announced.

Public Czech Radio’s (CRo) Vltava station will for the first time broadcast a recording of Havel’s play Temptation, in which all roles were performed by Havel himself in the autumn of 1985.

Havel, who was Czechoslovak and Czech president from 1989 to 2003, would turn 80 on October 5. He died on December 18, 2011.

The unique recording of Temptation on October 4 will start a series of CRo programmes that will commemorate Havel mainly as a playwright.

Programmes linked to the Havel anniversary will continue through the end of the week, CRo has written on its website where a survey of the programmes is also available.

CT, too, will focus on the anniversary as of October 4, when the Citizen Havel Rolls Another Barrel film will be broadcast. In it, its authors return to the past to illustrate the birth of Havel’s play Audience.

Audience, for its part, will be broadcast on the CT art channel on October 5, followed by a documentary programme Letters to Olga, named after a book of letters and philosophical texts that Havel, former leading dissident, wrote to his wife from communist prisons.

CT2 will offer a live transmission of a concert of the Czech Philharmonic performing Antonin Dvorak’s 9th Symphony under the baton of Semyon Bychkov.

CT will also broadcast an interview with Havel from the time of his departure from the presidential post and interviews with theatre directors who staged Havel’s plays on the scene.
